Hi, I’m Joel Phillips. I have a BS in Economics and an MBA in Finance, both from Idaho State University. For the last 15 years, my partners and I own and operate a privately-held investment firm. We specialize in helping business owners retire. We’ve invested over $1 billion of client money during that time in public and private equities, debt instruments, real estate, and other investment vehicles.
For the last 10 of those years, I ran our qualified plan group – 401ks, Profit-Sharing plans, IRAs and the like. This is what led us to the ESOP world. In 2021, we joined forces with Dan Reser to focus strictly on ESOP plans. My job at Fiduciary Services is to serve as the named Trustee of the ESOP plan. Most of my day is spent working with the Boards of Directors of our client companies, their CEOs, CFOs, and ESOP
Plan Administrators to make sure the ESOP Trust is run correctly.
Outside of work, my time is dedicated doing something adventurous with my family, preferably outside. We snow ski in the winter, dirt bike in the summer, race cars when time allows, and fly fake airplanes in our basement.
Daniel Reser
Hi, I’m Dan Reser. I have a Juris Doctorate degree from Southern Methodist University and have spent my entire career working in trust administration. I initially worked for several national and international banks doing corporate trust work, but have spent the last 20 years focused solely on ESOP trusts. I have played a part of 300+ ESOP trusts over my career.
My role at Fiduciary Services is to consult on new ESOP formations, transactions, ongoing administration, and board governance of our ESOP clients. Given my legal background, I have a strong interest in corporate governance of our ESOP clients and legislative matters within our industry. I speak regularly at our industry conferences.
Outside of work, I enjoy traveling internationally with my spouse, spending time with our grown children, and mountain biking wherever the trail takes us.
Craig Ricks
Hi, I’m Craig Ricks. I graduated from Utah State University with a degree in accounting and have spent the last 30+ years as a controller or CFO for both private and publicly-traded companies. My corporate experience includes financial reporting, budgeting/projections, mergers and acquisitions, and investor relations.
My role at Fiduciary Services is to work with our ESOP clients to ensure their Trust is being managed correctly. I’m heavily involved in our custody, valuation, administration, and transactional work. My background as a CFO gives me empathy and perspective of what the company CFO and CEO are dealing with.
Outside of work, my wife and I enjoy chasing our grandkids and Jeeping along the red-rock trails of Southern Utah.
